Oscan welcomes Durham’s electrical pros to Expo 2023 – PHOTOS!

November 3, 2023 – For a long time, I’ve held a personal fondness for Oscan Electrical Supplies Ltd. (previously Osso Electric), based in Oshawa, Ont.
Oshawa became my adoptive hometown when I moved here in 2003 but, more importantly, one of my early interviewees as editor of Electrical Business Magazine was John Osso, who co-founded the distributorship in the mid 1980s (“Contractor turned distributor”, EBMag May 2006).
Back then, John told me succession planning was very important to him. He wanted his sons to know everything about the family business, and ensure there are capable people in place to take over from those approaching retirement.
As a kid back in Italy, John played soccer in the street with the other kids, but when I met him, his passion had turned to golf. “I now get in about 50 to 60 games a year,” he told me.
Fast forward nearly 20 years and John is still golfing … handling the day-to-day at Oscan Electrical Supplies Ltd. nowadays is his son, Enrico. (Mission accomplished, John!)
From what I could see while attending the Oscan Expo last week (thanks for the invitation!), Enrico and the Oscan team are following John’s not-so-secret recipe for success: “Plain and simple, we take care of our customers”.
