January 27, 2015 | By Renée Francoeur
January 27, 2015 – Panasonic has revealed new updates to its rugged laptop, the Toughbook 31.
It now features an 18-hour battery life; 27 hours with the optional second battery. It has a new 5th gen Intel Core i5 processor plus Intel HD Graphics 5500 — for geographic information system (GIS) and military logistics applications — and a “design that withstands a 6-foot drop and is certified to pass 19 different MIL-STD-810G tests,” said Panasonic.
The Toughbook 31 also has improved connectivity with these updates and supports Wi-Fi ac in addition to older networks with Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 (a/b/g/n/ac); Wi-Fi ac offers faster speeds and longer ranges than previous standards, said the company.
With a magnesium alloy case, sunlight-viewable touchscreen, reinforced locking port covers and a quick-release hard drive with its own heater for cold weather operation, Panasonic calls it the company’s flagship rugged laptop.
The product will be available this February, with prices starting around $3,699.
