NB Power holds renewable energy project info sessions for March 2017
March 23, 2017 - NB Power and the provincial Department of Energy and Resource Development and are teaming up to host a series of public information sessions on community renewable energy projects.
“Your government is listening and understands that job creation and economic development are what matter most to New Brunswickers,” said Energy and Resource Development minister Rick Doucet. “Renewable energy can contribute to a diversified economy and reduce dependency on fossil fuels.”
The “Locally Owned Renewable Energy Project that are Small Scale” program allows universities, non-profit organizations, associations, co-operatives, First Nations and municipalities to partner with NB Power to install small-scale renewable energy sources in their communities.
The program stems from the province’s commitment to pursue new renewable energy projects in order to meet the Renewable Portfolio Standard, which requires NB Power to ensure that, by 2020, 40% of its in-province electricity sales are from renewable energy.
“This program supports local entities’ interests in renewable energy, allowing them to take control of their own energy future while helping us put more renewable energy on the grid,” said Gaëtan Thomas, CEO and president of NB Power. “It will also provide a significant step towards inclusion in the energy sector throughout the province.”
Previously, NB Power says there was no mechanism for local entities, including municipalities, to partner with NB Power on renewable energy projects in their communities.
Community information sessions will be held as follows:
• Grand Falls, March 28, 6 p.m., Centre E.P. Sénéchal, 60 Ouellette St.
• Bathurst, March 29, 1 p.m., KC Irving Regional Centre, 14 Sean Couturier Av.
