Technical Safety BC undertaking 2024 CE Code impact assessment

February 12, 2024 | By Anthony Capkun

February 12, 2024 – From February 5 to 23, Technical Safety BC is conducting public consultation digitally to gather feedback on the impact of adopting the 2024 Canadian Electrical Code into regulation.

“The input collected through this consultation will help us draft a recommendation to the Ministry of Housing on its suitability for provincial adoption,” says the agency.

The agency says it is piloting this digital approach to streamline its consultation processes, increase speed of adoption in British Columbia, and align closer to the CE Code implementation cycle.

To expedite this consultation, TSBC is providing three (3) weeks for the collection of public input.

After reading about the code changes, Technical Safety BC figures the survey should take between 3-5 minutes. You can also share your thoughts in the Open Forum.

In March, Technical Safety BC will submit its Request for Amendment and recommendations to the Provincial Government, informed by input received during consultation.

From March to April, TSBC will publish a summary report of what it heard during the consultation.

Due to uncertainty around the time of provincial elections (September to October), the agency will provide estimated dates for when Ministerial Orders are adopted in the province.

Again, due to uncertainty around elections, Technical Safety BC will continue to update the estimated dates for when the 2024 Canadian Electrical Code will come into effect.
