Telvent says it will work with Microsoft to create “more efficient smart grid solutions for the utility industry”. The two will leverage aspects of their respective technologies, says Telvent, “resulting in more scalable solutions with higher performance and increased security at a lower cost for utilities throughout the world”.

This collaboration will allow Telvent greater access to Microsoft
technology and resources to address smart grid needs, including
performance metrics, response times and security. Telvent will also
incorporate more of Microsoft’s Smart Energy Reference Architecture
(SERA) and cloud computing platform. Telvent says utilities will benefit
from reduced IT costs, easier-to-implement upgrades and more convenient
monthly software fees rather than large, capital-intensive IT projects.

“Our partners also can use the Microsoft [SERA] as the basis for the
development of smarter grids and the ‘integrated utility of the future’
because it addresses technology integration throughout the full scope of
the smart energy ecosystem,” said Jon Arnold, managing director,
Worldwide Power & Utilities Industry, Microsoft. “Using Microsoft
and partner technologies, utilities will be able to implement faster and
more reliably than they otherwise could with the trial-and-error
solutions offered by competitors.”
