October 10, 2017 – ABB will supply one of its heavy vehicle (HVC 450P) fast-charge systems to Laval, Quebec’s public transit service provider, Société de transport de Laval (STL).

In partnership with TM4 Inc. and Cummins Inc., STL recently announced plans to test two electric buses with range extenders. For this project, STL wanted an automatic fast-charger to recharge buses at the terminal. ABB says its HVC 450P charger provides 450kW DC output power and recharge a battery in less than six minutes.

The fast-charger is compatible with OppCharge, which provides “opportunity charging” (buses are charged while they wait at stops that are equipped with charging infrastructure).

“We have invested heavily in the development of electric fast-charging technology and are delighted to play a role in bringing cleaner and more energy-efficient transport to Laval,” said Nathalie Pilon, president of ABB, Canada.

ABB will be providing a full-scope project, including installation and civil works. The installation is scheduled for mid-2018 and will be supported by a team of engineers and service personnel from ABB’s North American Centre of Excellence in E-Mobility.
