BC Safety Authority introducing “enhancements” to electrical FSR program

August 30, 2017 | By Anthony Capkun

August 30, 2017 – BC Safety Authority is introducing “a number of enhancements” to the electrical field safety representative (FSR) program, including the introduction of a 3-year renewal cycle for all certificate classes.

To offset the cost of administering renewals and other enhancements to the program, BCSA is proposing a renewal fee of $100 per 3-year cycle.

Public commentary so far ranges from:

“It makes common sense that FSR renewal fees go through every three years… A great saving for the consumer and less cost for the BC Safety Authority. Am in full support of the change!”

to more negative, such as:

“I worked hard to earn my FSR. Any charge added to keep my record [is] simply a cash grab and punitive. This is not a needed service, and the charge would be taxing me for trying to [advance] safe standards at work.”

Read the analysis and provide your feedback before the consultation closes September 13, 2017.

You will be able to apply to renew your certificate beginning December 22, 2017.
