September 22, 2014 – Caterpillar has launched the Cat XQC1600 and Cat XQC1200 generator sets, two new diesel rental power modules that claim to combine world-class durability and reliability with fuel economy and power density.
The XQC1600 is rated for continuous use at 1515kW (1893kVA) at 50Hz and 1705kW (2131kVA) at 60Hz, while the XQC1200 has a continuous rating of 1150kW (1438kVA) at 50Hz and 1260kW (1575kVA) at 60Hz. The generator sets are configured to switch between 50- and 60-Hz ratings at the press of a button, where previous models required software or iron changes. Both models incorporate a variable frequency drive and fans requiring up to 80% less power than traditional direct drive cooling fans, says the company, adding that at 100% load, the decreased parasitics combined with engine enhancements deliver up to a 9% improvement in fuel economy compared to competitive offerings.
