Edo’s demand flexibility solution takes top honours at GridFWD pitch competition
November 6, 2024 | By Anthony Capkun

November 6, 2024 – Energy efficiency and demand flexibility solutions provider Edo earned top honours at the Grid Innovation Pitch Competition, held during GridFWD 2024 in Banff, Alta.
“We’re very honoured to receive this recognition from the Grid Forward community,” said Courtney Blodgett, Edo co-founder and director of strategy. “Our solution is designed to help utilities and commercial buildings work together to unlock the potential of demand flexibility, creating a more reliable and sustainable energy future.”
The Grid Innovation Pitch Competition recognizes companies that are pioneering new approaches to transmitting, distributing, and managing electric power.
Grid Forward invited eight start-ups—representing technology or services spanning analytics and forecasting, virtual power plants, electric vehicle management, resource modelling—to participate in the competition.
Edo’s winning pitch showcased the company’s cloud-based platform’s ability to transform commercial buildings “into dynamic grid assets, optimizing energy efficiency, enhancing resilience, and supporting grid reliability”.
The company’s demand flexibility solutions leverage distributed energy resources (DERs) and real-time data for smart load management. Virtual power plants aggregate buildings as grid resources, contributing to energy market stability, while Edo’s technology integrates with utility systems to optimize energy dispatch and forecasting.

“Accurant is proud to support the next generation of grid-enhancing technologies through the GridFWD 2024 pitch competition,” said Accurant’s Mark Hormann. “Flexible resources, including commercial loads, are critical to balancing the grid and lowering the cost of power. The pitch winner, Edo, is tackling this key opportunity of using buildings as a grid battery.”
As the winner, Edo is eligible for up to $50,000 in business advisory services and up to $250,000 equity investment from Accurant International, a technology consulting and capital investment firm.
