Functional Devices offers ballast-sized UL924 bypass/shunt relays for emerg lighting

January 12, 2011 | By Anthony Capkun

Functional Devices Inc. introduced a family of ballast-sized emergency UL924 bypass/shunt relays to ensure the presence of emergency lighting in the event of a power failure. With wireless RF circuitry specially built into the relay, technicians don’t have to climb up and down ladders to test emergency lights; they can walk through a building with a remote control fob (ESRT), press and hold it for a few seconds, and all dedicated emergency lights within a 50-ft area will light immediately for instant operability confirmation. Compact and low-profile, the bypass/shunt relays can be installed directly into the ballast channel of an existing lighting layout, allowing you to conveniently designate existing lights as emergency lights and avoid the cost and labour associated with separate/dedicated emergency lighting. The illumination of a red or green LED indicates whether normal utility or emergency power is active.
