Horizon Utilities first Canadian utility to earn CSA Z1000 certification
July 25, 2016 | By Renée Francoeur
July 25, 2016 – Horizon Utilities has announced it is the first Canadian electric utility to earn the Occupational Health and Safety Management System Standard CSA Z1000-14 certification from the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).
The utility (serving the Hamilton and St. Catharines, Ont. area) says its journey towards the CSA Z1000 (2014) accreditation began five years ago, with the “implementation of a more integrated and systematic approach”—Plan-Do-Check-Act— to reduce workplace injuries, illnesses and fatalities.
“We knew that implementing a standardized framework and achieving the CSA Z1000-14 certification would be a multi-year corporate initiative—and a significant investment in further promoting an enhanced safety culture,” said Max Cananzi, president & CEO of Horizon Utilities.
