August 4, 2010 | By

Ideal Industries, Inc. brings safety with its infrared (IR) non-contact thermometer. According to Ideal, the thermometer “allows users to measure surface temperatures of live circuits, difficult-to-reach objects, or moving parts from a comfortable distance to create a safer work environment.” It uses IR heat-sensing technology and has a built-in socket that supports Type K thermocouple probes. Also the thermometer uses “point-and-shoo” style measuring with a 12:1 distance-to-spot ratio. It can detect temperatures through the built-in laser pointer from -60°C to 500°C. On its backlit LCD, maximum, minimum, average and differential temperature readings will display once measured and can be given alarm warnings based on temperature highs and lows. The thermometer is available with an MSRP of $99 and includes a carrying case.
