Guelph Hydro raises over $64,000 for United Way

January 18, 2016 | By Renée Francoeur

January 18, 2016 – Thanks to bake sales, barbeques, raffles, and through payroll contributions, Guelph Hydro Electric Systems Inc. says its employees raised $34,235 for the United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin. The amount was matched by a company contribution of $30,000, bringing the total raised to over $64,000—almost $6500 over the 2015 fundraising goal of $58,000, Guelph Hydro says.

The funds contributed to the United Way’s 2015 fundraising campaign, which saw the organization raise $3,605,256 total.

Guelph Hydro received three awards from United Way:

• The Gold Award, in recognition of at least 75% of employees donating to the campaign;
• The Joint Union-Management Award, for the collaborative efforts of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and Guelph Hydro management in running the campaign;
• The Everyday Hero Award, for the biggest increase in the number of donors who donate at least $1 to the United Way every day for one year.

In addition, Kari Clifford, Guelph Hydro’s United Way campaign chair, was presented with the Union Campaign Co-ordinator of the Year Award.

“Year after year, Guelph Hydro employees step up a little more and dig a little deeper to help make our community stronger and more vibrant. It is an absolute pleasure to stand with this team and know that the same sense of community spirit runs through us,” Clifford says.

United Way says the funds will support 95 programs at more than 50 local social service agencies in Guelph, Wellington, and Dufferin counties.
