February 2, 2015 – Osram Sylvania kicked off 2015 with the launch of its Osram Lightify connected lighting kits.

Complete with a wireless gateway that can be plugged into a standard wall outlet, the Lightify systems sync with a WiFi network and gateway then connects to Lightify devices (up to 50 per gateway) via the ZigBee Home Automation standard, explained Osram.

Using this standard means that the products will work with customers’ own brands of home automation ecosystems, like WeMo, the company added.

Osram said it also plans to introduce Lightify integration with Nest in the coming months.

Lightify products also have a Lightify app for Apple iOS7 or above and Android 4.1 or above. The company said this app allows customers to control the system and play with personal lighting scenes, colour matching the lighting to a picture on a mobile device or pre-set various schedule-based lighting features at any time from any place in the world via an internet connection.
