December 5, 2012 – PowerStream has announced its annual charity golf tournament, held this September at the Nottawasaga Inn Resort in Alliston, Ont., raised the largest total amount in the five-year history of the tournament being a charity event. It netted more than $90,000 for the company’s 2012 fundraising campaign in support of the United Way of York Region and the United Way of Greater Simcoe County.

The previous record for the highest amount raised was set in 2011, when the event brought in more than $75,000. Since 2008, the golf tournament has generated over $300,000 for the two United Way organizations that PowerStream supports.

According to PowerStream, the tournament has become one of the largest golf events hosted by a utility in Ontario’s electricity industry with more than 75 sponsors, 375 golfers and 35 volunteers returning every year.

“The outstanding support we receive each year from our suppliers and business partners for this golf tournament demonstrates how their values and beliefs are in line with ours,” said Frank Scarpitti, PowerStream chair. “Helping others through activities that benefit charitable organizations like the United Way is consistent with the values that are embedded in the culture of our company.”
