RECALL: AmazonBasics 1,500-W ceramic space heater, due to fire hazard
June 12, 2019 | By Peter Saunders
June 12, 2019 – Amazon, Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) have issued a joint recall for AmazonBasics 1,500-W ceramic space heaters that can overheat, posing a burn and fire hazard, potentially leading to injury or property damage.
The recall involves a range of black or white heaters, with or without oscillating fans, that offer three output options: low, high or fan-only. They carry the following model numbers:
– B074MR2HGM
– B074MWRLZM
– B074MX8VNR
– B074MWKSLX
Amazon sold the products from October 2017 to March 2019, including approximately 18,000 units in Canada and 232,000 in the U.S. As of May 2, there were five reported incidents in Canada and 25 in the U.S., but no reports of injuries.
Owners should immediately stop using the recalled heaters. Canada’s Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, resold or even given away.
Amazon will reportedly send emails directly to all customers who purchased the products, with instructions on how to receive a full refund. If there are further questions, customers can contact Amazon by email.
