RECALL: Hubbell Canada 30A dryer and 50A range receptacles – RCL13-16

April 19, 2013 | By Anthony Capkun

April 19, 2013 – Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) is notifying the public that Hubbell Canada LP has announced a voluntary recall of Hubbell 30A 125/250V dryer and 50A 125/250V stove (range) power receptacles due to shock hazard. Electrical contractors and installers should stop installing recalled products immediately.

The recall involves about 42,744 units across Canada. The were manufactured in China and, due to an assembly anomaly, the receptacle ground contact may be oversized, creating the risk of shock under certain conditions with different manufacturers’ appliance plugs.

The affected receptacles are shown in the photographs below (courtesy ESA). One receptacle type is sold with an integrated moulded on-wall plate and is square, white, about 5 x 5 in. with the word Hubbell on the face. The second receptacle type is sold integrated into a mounting strap with no cover plate. Both series are available in 30A and 50A. The receptacles are round, about 2 1/4 in. in diameter. The word Hubbell is on the face of the device.

Products distributed between May 1, 2012, and March 30, 2013, are potentially affected. They were sold through distributors to electrical professionals and contractors. If you are affected, contact Hubbell Canada LP at (877) 233-8324 between 8 am and 5 pm ET, Monday through Friday, to discuss replacement options.
