December 8, 2011 – Shaw Communications has begun the trial of its WiFi Network, where customers will be able to try out the service at a limited number of locations, in advance of Shaw’s official launch in spring 2012.
Customers in Vancouver, B.C., Calgary, Alta., and Edmonton, Alta., can trial the service at different locations – including malls, restaurants and fitness facilities. The company notes that “hundreds of access points” will be added in the coming months, with “thousands of locations” being activated across the Shaw footprint in the next three years.
According to Shaw, customers will experience similar speeds as their home Internet service – extending the broadband experience beyond the home.
“Canadians’ use of smart phones and tablet devices has grown exponentially over the years and more than ever, consumers are relying on data to explore the Internet, connect with loved ones and enjoy entertainment,” said Peter Bissonnette, president of Shaw. “With Shaw WiFi, customers will have access to their exceptional Broadband Internet service beyond the home.”
