August 30, 2017 - According to the provincial utility, Nova Scotians will soon be able to drive their electric vehicles from Sydney to Yarmouth without having to worry about where to stop and recharge.

Nova Scotia Power announced it will install 12 EV fast-charge stations (15-30 minutes) across the province as part of a pilot project to study the impact and usage of the network on the grid.

Karen Hutt, president & CEO of Nova Scotia Power, says the pilot project “will help us understand how to make Nova Scotia more EV-friendly for customers while managing any impact to the electrical grid”.

The network will be ready for use by Spring 2018.

“Up until now, higher vehicle purchase costs and lack of infrastructure were significant barriers to consider buying an electric vehicle,” said David Swan, EV owner and past board member of Electric Mobility Canada. “A fast-charging network combined with more electric vehicles in the market creates a win-win situation for more sustainable transportation in Nova Scotia.”
