WARNING: Potentially hazardous Caleb communications cable – 14PN-08

May 15, 2014 – UL is notifying consumers that a communications cable Type CMP that was known to be sold at eBay (and maybe other locations) may pose a fire hazard, as it does not comply with UL’s safety requirements and is not authorized to bear the UL Mark (for the United States).

The cable was manufactured by Caleb Cable Industrial Ltd. (Sheung Shui, N.T., Hong Kong), and is missing the appropriate level of flame retardant.

The surface of the cable jacket displays the following description:

CAT5E 350MHZ BARE COPPER CMP PLENUM UTP 4-PAIR 24AWG EIA/TIA-568-B.2-1 (UL) E334179
