Eaton releases “industry-first” shunt trip safety switches

November 5, 2013 | By Alyssa Dalton

November 5, 2013 – Eaton says its new shunt trip safety switches provide remote tripping and a visible means of disconnect for commercial and industrial applications, while being the first safety switches in the industry to incorporate a shunt trip module.

The switch is available in two-, three- and four-pole configurations for maximum system voltages of 600V AC and 1000V DC power with fusible and non-fusible protection options. When signaled remotely, the device will electrically trip the switch, enhancing personnel safety and expanding the range of applications where safety switches can be applied, adds Eaton. The switch is designed to communicate with equipment sensors to identify unauthorized or unsafe conditions, and disconnect the machine’s power source to help protect personnel and equipment. It is listed to the UL98 standard for AC configurations and UL98B for DC configurations.
