Prysmian Group releases WideCap-OM4 multimode fiber

October 8, 2014 | By Alyssa Dalton

October 8, 2014 – Prysmian Group says its OWideCap-OM4 multimode fiber is optimized for multi-wavelength systems, delivering OM4 performance in the 850-950nm window while maintaining compatibility with current laser-optimized multimode fibers.

In an effort to satisfy the increasing information demand in data centres, Prysmian says the capacity of WideCap-OM4 has been extended to longer wavelengths up to 950nm. “Allowing the transmission of, for example, four channels in a 100nm window WideCap-OM4 is a prime example of our commitment to drive the advancement of multimode fibers,” says Marco van Dongen, sales and marketing director, optical fiber. “This advanced fiber in combination with multi-wavelength transceivers will likely be used in high performance data centres operating at 40/100/400Gbps in the near future.”
