September 11, 2019 – Health Canada has issued a recall for battery chargers sold with Kidsquad 12-V Mudslinger ride-on cars, as they bear a false Underwriters Laboratories (UL) certification mark and may overheat.
The recall involves chargers with the model number LK-DC-120100, which were sold in 2018 and 2019 with ride-on cars designated by the model number KSC10 or KSCMSR. The unauthorized UL marking appears on an outside label, as pictured. Approximately 4,524 units of the affected products were sold in Canada by distributor Nothing But Deals, operating as NBDI Marketing, based in Conestogo, Ont.
It is unknown if these products are compliant with any appropriate or applicable safety standards, but by Aug. 14, 2019, there were two reports in Canada of the batteries overheating (and no reports of injuries). Owners should immediately stop using the chargers and contact NBDI/Kidsquad for free replacements. (The Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.)
For more details, consumers can reach Kidsquad customer service at 519-880-8885 from Monday to Thursday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. ET and on Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. or via email.
